Check VScode output panel (menu view->output) - code-d tab and see what in the log, in my case on ubuntu openSSL v3 is used which is not supported by stable version of code-d but it works in beta channel (can be changed in settings via ctrl-comma or menu File->Preferences->Settings search for code-d served release channel.
