I've never really been fond of the app icon. We need something flat and stylish.

Inspirations:
Pushbullet
Gmail, Hangouts, Pushbullet

Note:
Current icon:
ic_launcher

@arjerine: I'll take pull requests from anyone 😁

In all seriousness, I'm not a graphic designer and I will need help with this. Anyone reading this: why not give it a shot? 😄

Like I said, not my specialty.

Good insight, thanks.

Second try:
Second try.

The idea being to follow Material Design, I took the colors from here (Deep Orange 900, Amber 500, Amber 300 + a darker shade of Amber (#cb9700))

Hey thanks, I really appreciate it!

1st version is super bright/flashy, second one looks much darker.

I like what you've done with the shape, the outer circle and the little speech bubble thing at the bottom.
Some really nice ideas when it comes to the shape, except maybe for that music note.

However something's wrong with the colors. QuickLyric's primary colors are either amber or maybe a light orange. On top of that, the Material Design guidelines instruct to have an "accent" color that should be very different from the primary color. In this case I chose the Deep Orange 900.

Meaning that there should be no yellow or green. Finally I think the style is actually too flat. Shading and styling are important. I like these instructions.

It's interesting because what I came up with had (in my opinion) the right colors and the right style but it wasn't exactly original. And what you came up with had some actual fresh ideas but didn't look "Material" enough imho. We should probably try to draw inspiration from each other.

Hey there.
Listen, I'm gonna level with you: at this point I think I still prefer the direction I was going in. But I really, really appreciate all the effort you've put in making this logo. Thank you for that.

The shading you're using is not exactly "Material"-y: Material Shading.
On top of that, the icon is apparently supposed to represent an actual object (with a few exceptions). I also don't really get why the text has a shadow. 😜 Again, I refer you to these instructions.

I'm gonna continue working on the icon. I'm curious to know how you would improve what I came up with.

Edit: @arjerine why'd you remove your work? :/

Patience :)

I'm currently surveying relatives/acquaintances on the icons. But hey, could you try another music note? I will say the shading is very Material, it's excellent.

Someone made this suggestion on reddit:

The edit suggested icon is much closer. Make the borders smaller, find a different color scheme, and add a drop shadow below the icon to make it pop.

The icon has been updated icon.svg

I'm not closing the issue in case someone wants to submit a new one.
