Both, the name of the package photo and the name of the Python distribution photo-tools are inappropriate for the following reasons:

  • Both names are too unspecific and do not describe the package well: it is not a general toolbox for all sorts of tasks regarding photos. This package rather serves a specific purpose of maintaining an index of a photo collection, managing image metadata and tagging the photos.
  • It violates best practices that the distribution and package names should be the same.

Furthermore, inconveniently, the distribution name photo-tools is already taken at PyPI.

Note: this issue should be solved before #2, because we should avoid using an obsolete name for creating a new documentation site.
