Phone CPUs are still too weak. Yuzu (or Ryjinx) and AetherX2 (I know I screwed up some names) are still fairly early and well. Isn't all that there yet. RPCS3 on Android wouldn't be able to emulate a really weak game due to CELL. Check back in a decade or 5 years

  1. No current contributors are interested in developing and maintaining such a port.

  2. Mobile SoCs are awful and nowhere near powerful enough to emulate the ps3 and even if they could in theory they would be kneecapped by tiny power budget due to being stuck on a tiny battery or just overheat and throttle which would further reduce performance.

  3. Vulkan drivers on Android are about as bad as Intel graphics drivers on Windows, which is pretty impressive in itself.

  4. Rpcs3 does not run on ARM at the moment.

  5. Keyboard and mouse controls are a miserable experience when playing console games, touchscreen would be even worse.

  6. The amount of ARM devices out there that would even be able to somewhat run rpcs3 are so few and far between that putting effort into supporting them would be a waste of time and would just clog up the discord/issue tracker with people complaining that their budget phone from 2014 runs like garbage.

I could keep going, but that about sums it up.

An arm port seems just useless at this point, though getting this to work with android x86 wouldn't probably be too much of an annoyance.

I don't think it's strictly a priority, but maybe laying the groundwork now for when Arm tablets/2-in-1s/laptops eventually become powerful enough could be useful?

Yuzu is slower than RPCS3, yet there's an Android port of yuzu. So I don't really see the problem personally.

you really don't know how complex the PS3's cpu is.....

I'm not an emulator developer, I just know that Switch is approximately 2.5 more times powerful than PS3. But it does not seem to matter, after doing some research, I found out why you might be right after all: "A lot of developers stated publicly that the PS3's cell processor was very complex and difficult to develop for than the Wii U's."

The PS3 is actually more powerful than a Switch. like it is still overkill even today.

Current top of the desktop cpus still struggle with ps3 emulation, theres no way a low powered mobile phone cpu will be able to emulate ps3 in any playable performance, and no the switch is not faster than ps3

And thats why you dont know that the PS3 is harder to emulate than the Switch

Also did you realize that the PS3 is a damn supercomputer while the switch is just a modified phone

@Asinin3 Asinin3 closed this as not planned Won't fix, can't repro, duplicate, stale Dec 22, 2023
