Crash Creating iCloud Account #2938
Comments
I've had this on one of my machines as well (two other unaffected). Happens every time I try to create an iCloud account. I've removed NNW and all preference plists I could find, rebooted the machine... still crash. Running macOS 11.2.3. |
@cledantec Are you able to create other accounts on the problem machine? Testing with a On My Mac account would help us understand the problem better. |
Tested with an On My Mac account and it crashed as well. |
Is there some extra security on your machine? Something that would prevent folder creation? |
There shouldn't be. The machine in question is setup just as the other two that had no problem. Nothing extra added that would lock the machine down. Maybe I can try to create a folder in the place manually and see if that triggers something as well? In syslog there's an entry prior to the sigabrt "NetNewsWire[4030]: getattrlist failed for /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Resources//GLRendererFloat.bundle/GLRendererFloat: #2: No such file or directory" but ? |
You most likely have some kind of permissions error going on. Let's try your idea about manually creating a folder to see what happens. Could you try to create a folder in the following location? ~/Library/Containers/com.ranchero.NetNewsWire-Evergreen/Data/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire/Accounts |
A version of that solved the problem. I first rm'd existing com.ranchero* folders from Containers and then restarted NNW... everything worked. Here's what might have been part of the problem. I had previously symlinked the Application Support/NetNewsWire folder to a dropbox location so I could easily keep subscriptions sync'd between machines (unsupported/playing with fire). When I did the upgrade to the new version that might have contributed to the folder creation problem once I dropped the symlink? The machine w/ the issue was the first I upgraded, the others I removed the symlink prior to upgrade and no problem. When I tried to clear all NNW plists/files, I didn't know to look in Containers and so the root issue stuck around until I blew it away just now. In any case, thanks for spending time on this. |
We're just glad you got it figured out! |
My guess is that it’s crashing on trying to create the folder. (But that’s just a guess.)
Seen on just one machine so far. Probably a fluke on that one machine. Not adding this to a milestone unless/until we find it affects more than one machine.
