The license renewal page is jolly confusing, largely because it contains multiple seemingly clickable buttons that are unclickable #346
Comments
I can improve that, let me work on the CSS for a little while to update the pages and make them more modern. I will report back with screenshots when I am done. |
That's a browser issue that I cannot and fastspring won't fix unfortunately - I have already raised multiple support requests on it. Might be a good idea to handle this in a separate issue here to document it. IN a nutshell - some web browsers (e.g. brave), browser Add-ons or firewalls / VPNs (not exactly sure what) suppress this box. You can either visit the page with a different browser (Firefox / Chrome) or reload the page in private mode, then the box will be displayed. Obviously I have no interest in people not being able to pay for their licenses but since fastspring can't fix it the only other option would be to migrate the shop to a completely different provider which would be a big risk and many weeks of work... fastspring is one of the biggest software resales platform on the planet. |
I can understand the OP's perspective on this. Yes, IMHO this is better. However, I would take it one step further and make a similar adjustment to the orange "button looking" box at top as well. Jay |
That new version is indeed better though better still it seems to me would be remove total of the yellow background boxes. The terms and conditions box: understood, and/but the problem does seem likely to harm your sales. Perhaps the page itself should document the work-around. Also: on Windows, I see a bizarre animation when I move the pointer over 'extend license'. I would make a video except that it would be hard to remove my license information from that video. Here though is a brief description. The window turns from black to white and then when I move the pointer away from 'extend license' the windows changes back to black but via a circular animation. (Linux seems to handle things differently or perhaps a difference in what I see is that one of my Linux machines has flagged the license expiry in a way that the Windows machine has not.) |

This is by design - it's supposed to attract attention to the button in case you hover over it and are not decided to click open the license page. I have to be very careful to attract the user's attention to the right place in order to convince them to visit the web shop. This is not easy :) |
How about merely making the button pulse? Can that be done in a sufficiently arresting fashion? The current behaviour is so very arresting that I felt overwhelmed and almost suspected a bug. |
the problem with pulsing (I had that) is that a permanent animation like this unfortunately really really slows down Thunderbird on some systems - so I gradually removed all "pulsing" elements from the UI |
Probably you've though of this - but how about a temporary pulse effect (on the license window, when renewal is needed)? |
The page at issue features five buttons each of which is rectangular, slightly rounded, and brightly coloured. All of the buttons look clickable, especially since the page gives one to think - at least if read quickly - that one is being asked to choose an option. Only one of the buttons is clickable. I submit that, for reasons that I have all but spelled out, this is something of a UX disaster!
Here is a screenshot of the page:
