Greetings -

If you are here, you are probably investigating how to convert from an ISAM type I/O access method to an SQL backend type I/O access method. A congratulation is in order. The choice will provide many options for the future that will become more obvious as you interact with individuals and companies that have already done this.

Also, a small word about caution. You will need a bit of perseverance. This involves a lot of learning of new concepts, ideas, and techniques. You will have to do some thinking on how to restructure some of your application processes to be more efficient as you go along. There will trial and error, trial and success, and quite of AHA! Moments (where a light bulb goes on) where you realize that this will better done a slightly different way. This is quite normal for a conversion process of this kind. You will not know all the answers before you start, but you will get a functional system by the time you finish.

In every programming community there are folks that have done this at least once that are willing to help you get through this process. So enlist their help by asking questions. Some very brave folks have done conversions more than once and recall what it sometimes took to get past some unusual and interesting what-the-heck-do-I-do-now questions.

The DCT2SQL templates are just a set of tools created thru many years of doing these type of conversions in many environments. They are here to help in your process. They are continually being improved. And they are FREE of charge.

There is no Silver Bullet and no Push Button Solution for a conversion. Work will be required!
