Visualizing Tabular Data

Plots of tabular data take many common forms--line graphs, histograms, scatter plots, box plots, etc. The purpose of this lesson is to teach the basic principles of the ggplot2 package's "Layered Grammar of Graphics", so that creating visualizations in R begins to seem down-right orderly.

Instructor Notes

The dataset used in this lesson is the Public-Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) of the 2017 5-year ACS conducted and published by the US Census Bureau. At the time of writing, a direct download link for a 2.3Gb ZIP is available. Full documentation is available online.
