It is possible to attach metadata to symbolic variables. The use of this depend on the metadata, and some may simply be a convenience for the user. E.g. the most general metadata, `description` allows you to attach an arbitrary string to a variable. Metadata is attached when a variable is created by adding it within square brackets after the variable in question.
