The CF conventions list the following parameters for specifying the Mercator projection:

  • longitude_of_projection_origin
  • Either standard_parallel (EPSG 9805) or scale_factor_at_projection_origin (EPSG 9804)
  • false_easting
  • false_northing

Currently, CartoPy only supports the longitude_of_projection_origin (central_longitude) and standard_parallel (latitude_true_scale). For complete support of data coming from a CF-compliant netCDF file, it would be good to support the other options, which are already supported in proj.4.
