Skyrim is home to those curious patron defenders of nature, the Spriggans. Their habits and life cycles are shrouded in mystery, and encountering them in their element is unpredictable and dangerous.

Infestation

Being defeated in combat by a Spriggan may see you infested by a Spriggan host. This symbiotic armor will hold you in its grasp, providing you with some surprising benefits, but also hindering you with certain deficits. Spriggan biology is unknown, but the roots will force you and others around you to masturbate compulsively.

Initially, only the hands and feet will be covered by roots (if you are not already wearing a locked Devious Device in these spots).

As the roots grow stronger, they will spread to your body and eventually, cover your face.

Eventually, as you wander Skyrim in this bio-skeleton, someone with a hunch about its origins will share a bit of information regarding where you might learn more about this thing intruding upon you.

Finding Your Fertile Husk

Once you discover (and finally arrive at) your ultimate destination, your inventory will be available for recovery inside a Fertile Spriggan Husk. The effect of the host will linger for up to 8 hours of game time after you finish the quest.

This quest is being developed. Eventually, you will be able to watch the host gradually envelope you, among other new bits and pieces.

*Note that you may find elements of the Spriggan Host Armor in the inventory of Spriggans and Flowering Spriggans that you kill. These pieces of armor don't function like the host that will be forced on you when you're defeated by a Spriggan. Manually equipping a piece of found Spriggan Host Armor won't trigger the Flowering Spriggan quest. The quest will only be triggered when you lose to a Spriggan in combat. It's possible that encountering a Flowering Spriggan (a new enemy added by SD+) and being defeated by her will trigger the Flowering Spriggan quest, but it's also possible that she will enslave you.

Unlike regular enslavement, where some of your inventory will be stolen by your new master and the rest will be snatched by Sanguine, in the case of being taken by a Spriggan, your whole inventory will be stripped and removed to a fertile husk. You'll need to learn more about the Spriggan life cycle in order to divine the location of the fertile husk that both contains your inventory and helps the Spriggan complete its fertility cycle.

Finding the right person to talk to should come in two ways. Naturally by talking to people - some will have a 'hello' topic that will trigger the right quest stage in your journal. Or by asking certain NPCs to help you with these things... or 'do you know anything about these roots'. Priests and hunters will have some knowledge to guide you in the right direction.

Once you complete the cycle, the roots will crawl away from you, leaving behind residues on your hands and feet.

After a few hours, there residual roots will vanish.

Kyne's Grove

Once you find the Lore book in the Temple of Kynareth, read it carefully. If contains clues about the location of a sacred source of water blessed by Kyne.

When you find the location of the spring, you will be allowed in under these conditions:

  • You are infected by roots
  • You have turned into a full spriggan shape
  • You are embracing your natural side and walk naked

Once inside, you will find a tree surrounded by a Spriggan Matron and small spriggans.

There is also an altar under a waterfall. Drinking from the altar will remove any residual root still attached you by accident long after the Spriggan quest is completed.

(As a safety, you can ask Danica PureSpring in Whiterun to help you get rid of residual roots as well).

Kyne's gifts

As a reward for helping Spriggans complete their life cycles, Kyne will grant you three powers:

  1. Call a spriggan for help (given at the first infection)
  2. Call of the wild (call nearby animals for help... given at the end of the first infection)
  3. Kyne's Child (turn into a full spriggan shape... given after the second infection).

Turning into a spriggan will grant you extra health, stamina and cold resistance. It also comes at a price - each transformation extends the duration of the spell by one day. If you want to terminate the spell and return to your normal shape early, you will have to go back to Kyne's Grove and drink from the altar.

How to remove residual roots on hands and feet after the quest is over

Several options are available.

  1. Make sure the quest is really over

The roots are residues from the infection. They should go away on their own after a few hours (use the wait key or sleep for a while).

  1. Go to Danica Purespring in Whiterun and ask her for a cure

  2. Go to the hidden Kyne's Grove and drink from the fountain there

  3. If all of the above fails, it is possible there was an issue with Devious Devices.

In that case, you can try to dump all of your equipment in a barrel and pick up everything except the hands and feet.

And of THAT doesn't work, here are instructions of last resort:

If the trick of moving everything in their inventory to another container does not fix the items try the following:

  • Remove everything possible from their inventory including any equipped DD items possible, it will make things easier.
  • Using ShowInventory in the console look for items with no name but show as worn, remove these items EXCEPT the item ending in 40F0C (device hider)
  • Open the normal inventory then unequip the items.
  • If the DDi quest for items is still active equip a normal item and remove it normally to shut it down.
