From the point of view of SmaCC, I'd say that SmaCC already integrates the UAST part of Babelfish. SmaCC auto-generates AST nodes via a framework which looks like a more powerfull generalisation of UAST nodes ... With a sort of type system for AST nodes extracted from the language grammar. However, there is no rôles in SmaCC.
BabelFish misses the Refactoring/Rewriting part of SmaCC with its pattern language, and this is where SmaCC shines.
