Global maps of biodiversity that depend on geo-political fences will always face a small, but persistent set of problems. We need to move away from these (or provide an alternate) to a purely spatial fencing/binning. H3 (Uber) seems to be a very good fit for this need. Open source, way more scalability than we will ever need, many open hooks, native postgis integration etc.
