While SpotX-Bash is not responsible for Spotify or computer issues, having a troubleshooting guide can help reduce issues reported to the repo. Use the following checklist when troubleshooting Spotify issues:

Close/Restart the Spotify app

Closing and restarting the Spotify app can sometimes help solve some issues.
This should always be attempted before trying anything else.

Reboot computer

Reboot the computer before attempting to uninstall/reinstall Spotify or delete any files.

Uninstall Spotify and app/cache data

If restarting Spotify and computer didn't resolve the error/issue, fully uninstalling then reinstalling Spotify should be attempted. The same app version should also be used so that testing before and after the uninstall is consistent.

Unfortunately, Spotify for Linux and macOS does not have a built-in uninstaller. The following details outline how to completely uninstall Spotify from the computer:

For Linux:

  • Use the app/package manager or the uninstall method for the installation method used when installing Spotify
  • Delete the app and cache data which, by default, is in the following directories:
    $HOME/.cache/spotify
    $HOME/.config/spotify
  • Once all is deleted, reinstall Spotify (not SpotX-Bash), sign in and see if the error/issue persists
  • If issue persists, check the Official Spotify Support Communities and FAQ
  • If the error/issue is gone, re-apply SpotX-Bash
  • If the error/issue returns after re-applying SpotX-Bash, this may be a SpotX-Bash issue. Confirm your Spotify version is supported by SpotX-Bash and check all previous issues before submitting an issue.

For macOS:

  • Delete the Spotify.app (by default, apps are located in /Applications)
  • Delete the Spotify app and cache data which is in the following directories:
    $HOME/Library/Application Support/Spotify
    $HOME/Library/Caches/com.spotify.client
  • Once all is deleted, reinstall Spotify (not SpotX-Bash), sign in and see if the error/issue persists
  • If issue persists, check the Official Spotify Support Communities and FAQ
  • If the error/issue is gone, re-apply SpotX-Bash
  • If the error/issue returns after re-applying SpotX-Bash, this may be a SpotX-Bash issue. Confirm your Spotify version is supported by SpotX-Bash and check all previous issues before submitting an issue.

Uninstall Spotify and app/cache data (automated script)

If restarting Spotify and your computer did not resolve the issue, fully uninstalling then reinstalling Spotify should be attempted. The same app version should also be used so that testing before and after the uninstall is consistent.

Unfortunately, Spotify for Linux and macOS does not have a built-in uninstaller but the following script will automatically find and delete the Spotify app + app/cache data.

In terminal run and follow any on-screen prompts if asked:

bash <(curl -sSL https://gist.github.com/jetfir3/f620e44fc246c1bed45ed040bbfa2d68/raw/uninstallify.sh)
  • Once all is deleted, reinstall Spotify (not SpotX-Bash), sign in and see if the error/issue persists
  • If issue persists, check the Official Spotify Support Communities and FAQ
  • If the error/issue is gone, re-apply SpotX-Bash
  • If the error/issue returns after re-applying SpotX-Bash, this may be a SpotX-Bash issue. Confirm your Spotify version is supported by SpotX-Bash and check all previous issues before submitting an issue.

Change Spotify version

If fully uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify did not remove the error/issue and it was not caused by SpotX-Bash then it's possible that the specific version of Spotify is responsible. Trying an older or newer version may help. Check the Official Spotify Support Communities and FAQ to see if others have reported similar issues.

If the issue is not related to SpotX-Bash, use the official support pages to see if your issue has been reported or to report the issue yourself.
