[IMPORTANT] How to configure my system monitoring software?

For AIDA64 users

Quanto natively supports AIDA64 as a system monitoring feature extension. Usually, you only need to operate in AIDA64.

  1. Open AIDA64, cilck "file" at menu and select "preferences".

  2. Down "hardware monitoring" category at the left menu, select "external applications" page, check "enable writing sensor values to Registry" at right, and click "select all" at below.

  3. Confirm all the dialog, and refresh Rainmeter. Ensure that AIDA64 is running in the background.

It should be noted that NOT ALL hardware is capable of displaying all extra information due to device differences.

[Advanced] Objects can be displayed in the software, but not in Quanto. What should I do?

First, the data read by these skins comes from the registry. If the data shows errors, it is possible to read the registry key incorrectly. To correct them, modify them through the skin settings.

You can find this data in the registry. To view them, open the Registry Editor (Win+R -> Enter "regedit.exe") and go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FinalWire\AIDA64\SensorValues.

This is a list of data for the AIDA64 sensor.

The key value name is interpreted as follows:

  • Layer 1: "Label" or "Value". What we need is the latter.

  • Layer 2: A single letter, such as P, S, T, or V, means power, state, temperature, or voltage, respectively.

  • Layer 3: Short name for hardware.

  • Layer 4: Serial number.

  • (Layer 5: Suffix.)

Take "Value.VGPU1" as an example, its separation can be seen as:

Value V GPU 1
Value Voltage Graphics card 1st

It means the "Value" of the "V (voltage)" of the "1(st)" "GPU (graphics card)", the value of the voltage of the 1st graphics card.

Copy the name of the key value (note that it is the name and not its value), and then open the settings of the skin you want to modify. Select the object you want to fix, then paste, and press Enter to confirm.

For HWiNFO users

HWiNFO is a free software for individuals that is more customizable and informative. Therefore, I personally recommend this software.

Download and configure HWiNFO

  1. Go to HWiNFO Official Website to download the latest version of HWiNFO, no matter installer or portable executable file.

If you are currently running a 64-bit system, please use the 64-bit version.

  1. When you open it for the first time, a window like this may pop up. Check "Sensors-only", then click "Start".
19
  1. You will open Sensors Status. Click "⚙️" below.
19
  1. You will open Sensor Settings. Select "HWiNFO Gadget" at the top, and check "Enable reporting to Gadget" below.
19
  1. If you need to make an entry available:

    1. Click this entry in the window.

    2. Check "Report value in Gadget".

    3. Once you've made all the entries you need available, you'll need to look at the list from the beginning and record the index of the enabled entries. This will facilitate subsequent setups.

  2. When you're done, click OK and let HWiNFO keep running in the background.

In order to prevent HWiNFO from being turned off by mistake and to be able to turn on HWiNFO when booting, please open the Main Settings and then set them as shown in the image below.

19

Here are the entries we need:

  • Battery
    • Wear Level
    • Voltage
  • CPU
    • Temperature
    • Clock
    • Voltage
    • Power
  • Drive (Hard Disk)
    • Temperature
    • Read Rate
    • Write Rate
    • Remaining Life
  • Cooling Fans
    • Rate
  • GPU
    • Usage
    • Memory Usage
    • Temperature
    • Clock
    • Voltage
    • Power
  • RAM
    • Temperature
    • Clock
    • Voltage

We understand that the above terms may not correspond one-to-one, so please set them up according to your device. If you don't have some of the above entries, you can ignore them.

Configure Quanto

  1. You should download and install this add-on first:
Name Version For Quanto Description
HWiNFO Support 1.0.0 1.31.X An alternative for detailed system monitoring. ⬇️
  1. You will see "HWiNFO Support" appears in the window, click it.

  2. Add "Configuration Entry" skin. Then you'll see a "⚙️" displayed at the top left of the screen, click it.

  3. You will open the configuration file with the text editor you set. Enter the INDEX corresponding to the above entry. Then, save it in UTF-16 LE or ANSI encoding.

19

If you forget the index corresponding to these entries

You can still view them through Sensor Settings in HWiNFO.

19

Or open Registry Editor and go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HWiNF064\VSB. Follow these tips to query the index.

I'm a Windows 8/8.1 user. After installing Quanto and applying layout, I can't run Rainmeter anymore!

First of all, after applying the layout, about the reason why Rainmeter always crashes, we have already pinpointed out - MediaPlayer plugins do not support Windows 8, and all preset layouts come with a widget "Media Control", which may use this plugin.

You can go to X:\Users\(Your username)\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\Plugins to delete MediaPlayer.dll, then retry to run Rainmeter.

It appears blurry on my high-resolution screen.

  1. Find the executable program/shortcut of Rainmeter.

  2. Right-click it, and select "properties".

  3. Select "compatibility" page.

4.1. To Windows 10/11: click "change high DPI settings", check "override high DPI scaling behavior", and change "scaling performed by" to "application".

4.2. To Windows 7/8/8.1: check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".

  1. Confirm all and restart Rainmeter process.

I'm a Windows 10 user. When I enable the blur effect, dragging the window appears sluggish.

Try switching another Type for the blur effect, such as switching from Acyric to Blur, and turning off Global Blur Effect.

It slowed down my computer.

By deactivating some skins, you can optimize the performance of your computer.

We would recommend avoiding using something high-occupancy, e.g. skins with web parser modules and visualizer.

Some widgets behave abnormally.

Please try to refresh them, or restart Rainmeter process.

To widgets with system monitoring: Restart Perfmon.exe, then refresh the skin.

To widgets with web parser modules: Check your Internet connection and settings of the skin.

Datas are inaccurate.

About CPU usage: You can modify the source through Skin Settings.

About timing: Due to problems with the Rainmeter mechanism, timing is not directly related to system time. So you shouldn't actually use the Rainmeter skin for accurate timing.

About "Windows 8/8.10/10/11 'Computer Uptime' displays abnormally" issue

Due to its default "hybrid shutdown" (called "fast startup" in the system) mechanism, the computer does not shut down completely after performing "shutdown", but enters a "sleep" state. At this point, Rainmeter does not consider it a complete shutdown of the system, so it does not reset the time to zero.

I accidentally set a Panel\Config to be Click Through, now I can't access it.

Press and hold Ctrl and right-click it, then uncheck that option.

Media Control doesn't work with my media player.

First of all, you need to make sure you're using one of these players and that you set its setting correctly.

There are 2 plugins available:

Plugin Name Provider Supported Players Additional Conditions Details
NowPlaying Rainmeter View on Rainmeter Manual - Rainmeter Manual
WebNowPlaying tjhrulz View on refered repository A browser extension is required. Rainmeter Forum

[Advanced] What is a weather API key and why? How do I get my own one?

Quanto uses OpenWeatherMap to receive weather informations, which requires a valid API key.

API key is everything you need to call for weather data

Please, use your API key in every API call you make. Our platform only processes the API requests with an API key included. The API keys linked to your account are used to take count of the calls you make to OpenWeather platform.

-- OpenWeatherMap

About Error Code: 401

This error may occur if you are using your own API key. It is important to note that having an API key does not mean access to weather services. You must have a plan in at least one subscription.

About Error Code: 429

This error code indicates that you have exceeded your daily access limit. You can wait for the next day to refresh the access count and extend the Refresh Rate in the Skin Settings.

How to get one?

1. Go to OpenWeatherMap Website and sign in or create an account

If you don't have an account, click Create an Account.

If you already have an account, enter your account number and password and click Submit, and skip to step 3.

2. Create a new account

Enter a username, a valid email address, and a valid password. When you're done, click Create Account.

Due to space constraints, this image has been simplified.

Orange boxes indicate options that must be checked.

Sometimes you may be asked to pass reCaptcha.

And then you will see this pop-up window. Select Weather widget for web as your purpose, and then click Save.

At the same time, you will receive an email. Click Verify your email, and under normal circumstances, the interface like Image 2 will be displayed.

3. Subscribe the free plan

If you're already subscribed to a plan, skip it.

For individuals, a free plan is enough to use. Click API at the top, then click Subscribe under the title "One Call API 3.0".

Or click Billing plans, then click Subscribe on the same line as Base plan.

If you have never filled in your own billing information, this page will pop up. Please fill in the necessary information and click Continue to payment.

Enter your card account to complete the transaction. Once completed, you will be redirected to this page, and if you see such a message, the subscription is successful.

It takes some time for the subscription plan to take effect.

In fact, this plan allows you to send 1000 requests in a day, but the excess will be charged at €0.12 per 100. So I personally recommend setting Calls per day to 1000.

After that, you can check your subscription here.

4. Get your API key

Click API keys to see your API key. Copy one of them.

It is important to note that having an API key does not mean access to weather services. You must have a plan in at least one subscription.

5. Apply it

Open Quanto Settings, click Region Settings, then click Click to Modify on the same line as API Key. Just paste, and press Enter.

If you going to use this API key for another skins, keep in mind that it would only work if the skins uses OpenWeatherMap as forecast provider.
