Pharma Industry Champions

Each Open Chemistry Network Project will have a "Pharma Champion." The role of the Pharma Champion is to be a voluntary, part-time, online project consultant for one project. The primary responsibility of the Pharma Champion is to keep an eye on the strategic direction of the research. Key responsibilities:

  • Attend an online, monthly project strategy meeting that looks at key recent data and outlines key next steps. This meeting would normally last an hour, but may be more or less depending on how busy the project is;

  • To prepare for the meeting by viewing a briefing that will be sent beforehand, and to think about the project when time permits;

  • To help make key introductions to other researchers or organisations, should that be useful to the project;

  • To be named as the Pharma Champion associated with the project, along with your affiliation

  • (Optional) To respond to written queries and updates on the Github discussion platform (what you're looking at right now).

  • (Optional) To promote the project, and the research needs of the project, in your professional network as you see fit.

Time commitment: approximately 3 hours per month.

Period of term: one year, renewable.

Point of contact: SGC Head of Chemistry Networks, Matthew Todd, University College London.

There are example Chemistry Networks Projects that can be browsed.

The post of Pharma Champion does not overlap with that of the Sir James Murray Student Champion, which is less of a strategic consultancy role and is more related to project coordination.

If you are interested, please reach out to Mat Todd in the first instance (matthew.todd@ucl.ac.uk), or contact the SGC Chemistry Team (chemistry@thesgc.org) or reach out to other contacts at the SGC itself whom you may already know.

The role would suit scientists either currently working in the pharma industry (and related industries such as biotech and CROs) or someone who has extended experience in these industries but who has retired or stepped away.
