Table of Contents

Interface

Watched Threads

In the main part of the program, you can see a list of all your watched threads.

Context Menu

When you right-click on one or more threads, a menu with a list of possible actions is displayed.

Blacklist

Blacklisting a thread will prevent it from being added. It can be useful when using the Auto-Follow feature to prevent a thread from being automatically re-added after its deletion.

You can also blacklist threads manually by modifying the blacklist file in the settings folder (one rule per line). A rule consists of either a thread's PageID or a wildcard definition if you enabled them. For a detailed view of how this works, have a look at the image below:

Settings

Download Folder

Sets the watched threads' download folder. Can be made relative.

Custom User Agent

Allows you to specify your own custom user agent that will be used when downloading. When not selected, it defaults to "Chan Thread Watch {Version}" where {Version} is the version used of the program.

Settings Location

You can choose between your %AppData% folder and the executable folder (where you ran the program).

General

Save Thumbnails and Post-Process HTML

This is the main option that allows you to archive threads. If you only wish to download images and do not care about having a locally-browsable version of your threads, you can uncheck this option.

Verify Image Hashes

Only supported for some sites

Checks the image hash when downloading and retry if it doesn't match.

Recursively Auto-Follow Child Threads

Only supported for some sites

When checked, the threads added by the Auto-Follow feature are also set with the Auto-Follow mode.

Follow Threads Outside of the Current Board

Only supported for some sites

When unchecked, the Auto-Follow feature will ignore threads that are not in the same board of the thread being watched.

Automatically Check For Updates

Periodically checks for new versions of the program and notifies you when you are not using the latest version.

Enable Blacklist Wildcards

Enables the use of wildcards in the blacklist. See the Blacklist feature to learn how to use them.

Minimize to Tray

When checked, the program will minimize to the system tray and display a tray icon.

Maximum Download Speed

Sets the maximum download speed in kilobytes per second (in reality kibibytes per second). A value of zero equals to an unlimited download speed.

Naming and Structure

Thread Folder Naming

You can customize the naming scheme of your watched threads' folders here. When no option is checked, they will follow the default description naming scheme {Site}_{Board}_{ThreadName}. Whenever a thread property is changed (Description, Category or Parent Thread Description), the program will try to rename the folder depending on the following settings.

Description

When checked, the folder is named after the thread's description.

Category

When checked, the folder is placed inside another folder named after the thread's category.

Parent Thread Description

When checked, the thread's parent thread description is appended to the folder name using the specified format ("{Parent}" is replaced by the parent's description). This only applies to threads added by the Auto-Follow feature.

Sort Images by Poster

Only supported for some sites

Each image will be placed in a sub-folder named after the poster's name or ID when applicable.

Use Original Filenames

Only supported for some sites

Images will be saved using their original filename instead of their sequentially generated number.

Use Slug in Thread Name

Only supported for some sites

Allows you to include the slug in the thread's name used for the default description. When unchecked, it defaults to the thread's ID.

You can choose between three types:

  • Slug first (this-is-a-slug_123456789)
  • Thread ID first (123456789_this-is-a-slug)
  • Slug only (this-is-a-slug)

Backup

Backup Thread List

Enables the periodical backup of the thread list using the specified time interval in minutes. You can also use the "Backup Now" button to make a one-time backup. The backup is saved in the settings folder next to the thread list with the appended file extension ".bak".

Do Not Backup if Current Size is Smaller

Enabling this option prevents backups to be made if the current size of the thread list is smaller than the current backup size. This is useful if you inadvertently deleted threads or in case a bug wipes out your thread list.

Planned Features

Here is a non-exhaustive list of planned features. You can also check the issue tracker to find some other requested features.

  • Custom automatic description (thread title, creation date, etc.)
  • Support for more imageboards
