Info

This map shows the locations of all the nuclear tests that took place between 1945 and 2017.

Tests after the year 1998 have been manually added to the dataset.

It is possible, however, that not all the data about nuclear tests was disclosed by the
participating countries as this form of information is often classified. It is therefore reasonable
to think that some marks on the map are missing. Also, on some tests, multiple detonations occurred,
but in the dataset, they have been grouped under one entry.

After cross-checking, I also discovered that part of the data is not accurate or is missing.
For instance, the depth value in the dataset is often 0 which should correspond to a deflagration on
the surface, however, upon double-checking the data from various resources, it can be seen that the deflagrations took
place at different altitudes or depths.
A possible cause could be attributed to part of the data being missing from the original report.
Or, it can be attributed to how the data was scraped.
However, following a manual check and update, the coordinates are close to those found
on Wikipedia.
For the reasons mentioned above, only one type of filter was created. Nevertheless, the map
gives a good idea of how many tests have been carried out and by what country.

There is still a lot of data that should be reviewed and amended. I have found more than 600
tests with no name. According to Wikipedia, a lot of them have just numbers instead of names.
I will try to give a name to all of the entries in the dataset. This should help me
identify the tests that share a single location. Changing the decimal location of even a tiny
fraction can help visualise the sites in a better way.
