Progenitus

Introduction

Progenitus is a program that enables you to play Magic the Gathering with your friends over the internet. It consists of a deck editor, a network client and an updater. In order to play, you need the card database and pictures, which for copyright reasons are not part of this distribution. Progenitus is still in early stages of development but it can already be used for playing. Please report any bugs you encounter.

The updater Progenitus comes with is capable of extracting the card information from the website magiccards.info, a process that might be illegal (depending on your country of residence). Please note that I do not encourage you to do this and cannot be held responsible for anything you choose to do with this piece of software.

Progenitus has no rule enforcing engine, and there are no plans to add one. As a consequence, you can play using your house rules.

Progenitus is Free Software, you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 3 (or at your option any later version). This program is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but without any warranty; without even the implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Check out the Free Software Foundation for more details.

Installing

You can fetch the latest source code and run it on your *nix machine. Progenitus is entirely written in Python and thus cross-platform. A Microsoft Windows version is currently in the making and will be released starting with version 0.40. In the mean time you may want to look at instructions how to run the source code on a windows machine.

Compiling

To build Progenitus, you need the following libraries:

  • Python 2.6 or 2.7
  • GTK 2.20 or higher
  • PyGTK
  • SleekXMPP 1.0 (included)

About Progenitus

Buried under centuries of jungle growth, something slumbers in the Valley of the Ancient. The Cylian elves constantly monitor the valley and the steam that rises from three vents on the forest floor. They believe this is the slow, even breath of the hydra-god Progenitus at rest. Many elves devote their lives to the hydra, doing whatever they can to understand his will and keep him at peace.

The elves believe that the hydra-god is both the origin and sustainer of life in Naya. But he must remain dormant under the ground. If Progenitus rises again, the world will be consumed under the force of the catastrophic storms he will unleash upon creation. Despite their efforts to placate him, Progenitus is stirring. As the planes begin to merge, blue and black mana seeps back into Naya, and the hydra-god awakens.

The Soul of the World has returned.
