Raspberry Pi Zero Camera Cardboard Project

The templates in this repo is based on the camera module sold in here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/mr.craig-lewis/m.html

Background

This project was inspired by the google cardboard VR (recently it released AIY...also cardboard). As the raspberry pi camera player, I made this for my own projects. This weekend my friend visited me and saw my cardboard camera kit, he said I should open source it, so here it is.

Template

There is one file called template.dxf. This file includes all the templates of different type of cameras and kits I designed. If you want to make your own camera kit, all the material you would need can be found in this file.

Three kits

  1. pi_cam.dxf/bmp This one is for all the normal cameral module, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152459924058
  2. pi_cam_lens.dxf/bmp This kit is for the normal cameral module with lens, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152533878787
  3. pizero_cam_lens.dxf/bmp This one is for pi zero camera with lens, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152533848844

How to use it?

You may alreay get it if you saw the files. Well, very simple and straightforward, what you need to do is

  • Firstly print the bmp file on A4 paper with no scale (normally it will automatically add an edge so it needs to be set as no scale and 100%).

  • Then, glue it on a A4 super thick paper, which you could find in Amazon (search for A4 super thick). After glue dried, use cutter and hole punch (M2.5, M2) to cut the parts.

  • Final part, if you would like a strong structure, you should glue the copied parts but rotated 90 degrees together. Why? because normally the paper texture are on one direction, so, if you glued two parts together, it would get the crossed texture, which make the structure very strong and it could hold for longer time.

  • Also, you can print anything you like on A4 paper and it will stay on the kit.

Ending

I think it is NOT kid friendly. I tried lots of times myself and found cutting thick paper was not as easy as I expected. However, it is cheap and enjoyful ;)

What's else you need to buy

  1. M2.5 M2 screw and nut, which I believe every raspberry pi player should have.

  2. Suction cups if you wanted to put it on the window or freezer.
