I didn't saw this error before. @notoraptor did you saw it before? Did you installed g++ mingw before? If so, that could be the problem. Uninstall/move your old mingw/g++ and let anaconda use its own version. |
Not seen this error before, @nouiz . I would also ask what is your version of gcc ? You should better use the conda package |
@nouiz Yeah, I had separately installed mingw with pip. I uninstalled mingw and theano. And follwed the steps from the link provided above to reinstall everything. I installed Cuda (since it was recommended). These were the steps I took:
#pydot didn't install properly, so I gave up on that
The error seems to have disappeared after taking the above steps but I'm running into a different problem.
Any idea what I could be doing wrong? _license 1.1 py36_1 |
Can you uninstall and reinstall the |
@lamblin Yes, it seems I can. Would you like to me to do so? |
I think it could help. |
@lamblin Hi Pascal. I'm tried unistalling then reinstalling but still can't import. I even restarted my computer. :( |
your jupyther probably use another python stack the then conda one. Can you
verify that you only have one python installed?
You can/could also install jupyther from conda and use that version. But
there is always risk of mixing multiple python stack when multiple version
are present.

What happens if you do not use jupyter notebook, but a regular python shell? Can you import theano there? |
@nouiz Hi, I have two versions of Python installed with my Jupyter notebook (2.7 and 3.6). The one I'm testing out in Jupyter notebook is 3.6 (I'm opening up Python 3.6 in my jupyter notebook). You may be right. I will try to look up how to add the conda stack and report back. |
@lamblin If I use the Python3.6 shell, I get the same error; "No module name 'theano'" |
Hello, @Moondra . Does your Jupyter come from conda ? How many versions of Python do you have in your whole Windows system ? |
@notoraptor Hi, I have only two Python version 2.7 and 3.6. I also had 3.5 but I uninstalled it a while back. It's been a while but I think my jupyter notebook comes from the Anaconda package. |
Can you check where conda install packages? Is it in |
@lamblin Hi, My conda seems to install packages here:
If I run python 3.6 from command line and run the code you want I get:
|
Path Do you use a conda environment ? What is the result of |
PS: Also, could you try following commands and post the result:

OK, so you have a system Python 3.6, which does not have Anaconda's packages in its |
@notoraptor Hi, I haven't created any specific environments (might have once for practice though).
|
@lamblin Hi, do you mean
|
Ah. I see. I tried what you guys are suggesting and here is the result:
|
Code (root) C:\Users\Moondra>python -c "import theano; print(theano.__path__)" Or just launch |
@notoraptor Ah! Sorry about that: Here is the output I get:
|
So, that means than Theano has been well imported ! |
The problem was that you have many Python installations in your Windows system (at least 3 different installations), and Theano is installed only in conda installation. So, you have to use conda installation only when you want to work with Theano. You can either:
|
@notoraptor I had a feeling that was the case after some testing. I didn't know about |
@notoraptor Could you please help with this issue? Thanks. |
This issue is closed. If you have problems, open a new issue or email theano mailing lists with the information. |
conda install numpy scipy mkl-service libpython |
I"m using python 3.6, Windows 7 and have theano .9.0 installed.
I have an Nvdia 1070 card.
I'm using latest version of Anaconda and trying to run Jupyter notebook in Theano.
Here is my full tracebook, not sure which part is relevant but it's about 1000 lines long.
(I'm trying to include the trackback in quote code but it doesn't seem to be working)
