Support for the Persian Calendar is merited.

Can this opened again? Java 8 is delayed http://mreinhold.org/blog/secure-the-train so I think this can be reopened. I can work on it also.

There is certainly no harm in working on it. If it doesn't get into the JDK, it can go in the "extras" project (currently for the JDK7 backport), as with this other calendar system.

(ie. open an issue at https://github.com/ThreeTen/threetenbp-extra/issues and initially work on it there)
