Features We Plan to Add to Transit Talk

We've been building Transit Talk for a long time. During that time, we've had to make a lot of hard decisions about what features to prioritize. You can read about what you can currently do with Transit Talk here, but this document is all about what we want you to be able to do in the future!

Features that we don't have (but often get suggestions for)

  • Transit Talk doesn't currently track vehicles live as they move through a public transit system. This is because there is no universal data standard for vehicle tracking (like there is for station information). At the moment, all reports made on Transit Talk are tied to the station nearest to where the issue occurred. We are considering how to implement a template in code that will allow developers to build live tracking for their cities, without building a feature that's based entirely on how one or two cities does vehicle tracking.
  • There is no map view of the overall transit system or the issues being reported in place yet. We want to implement one down the road!
  • Transit Talk is a mobile-first web app, launched as a website, instead of a native mobile app for iOS or Android. Later on, we'll probably create a sandboxed mobile version of the app, then native versions even further down the road.
