To be clear, on update my theme folder get renamed from "mythemename" to "anou-mythemename-b18c999" where anou is my user name on github and the number I don't know...

or maybe github api changed ?

Any help appreciated

I've change the plug-in files with my fork of the plug-in and now it's renaming my theme folder like this : "mythemename-2.1.7" where 2.1.7 is my theme version :-)

I had the same problem, but it turns out that the folder is only renamed if the plugin cannot delete the old one. In my instance, the web server had to have read+write for the theme folder – then it worked like a charm. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately I didn't managed to make it work properly so I used this plug-in instead: https://github.com/afragen/github-updater
