Is there a planned time and date for the Smart Maps Bazaar? I'd love to learn more and also volunteer help out with it! |
@albertkun Thank you! The date and time of the event is not decided. Below is the timeline I see:
The earliest timing would be some weeks before FOSS4G 2023. Other possibilities would be Summer/Autumn 2023. |
Thank you for sharing the timeline! I could see value in having the Smart Maps Bazaar close to FOSS4G either as a lead up or a follow up from that event! Since I am still new, maybe I can help out with marketing and outreach for the event ? I'd love to post about it on places like the Documentation website, Twitter, etc.! |
I am developing CONCEPT.md at https://github.com/UNopenGIS/smb/blob/main/docs/CONCEPT.md. I finished writing in my local language. I am upgrading the content by rewriting in English. |
@hfu thank you for sharing the document! I would like to include this in the documentation under a "Events" section! Let me know if that would be OK! |
@albertkun Thank you! I appreciate if you kindly include this in the documentation. |
@hfu I added both the English and Japanese versions to the documentation website! Let me know if you'd like any changes! English:Japanese:For the Japanese I wasn't sure if I should translate

Date and TimeLet's think about the date and time first, so that we can introduce it on #125 and FOSS4G 2023. How about 2023-07-12T22:00/23:00+09:00? It is Wednesday. It would not be so easy in California, but this time looks like a standard for the UN geospatial professionals most of whom work in the zones between New York and Mogadishu. @albertkun, @yuiseki What do you think? |
@hfu, I think that time is good, but I cannot attend, as you correctly stated it is not a good time for California. Hopefully we can record it! 😅 |
@albertkun Yes, Pacific or Atlantic, that is the problem. We do both :-) Ah, missing you means we cannot rely on UCLA zoom. No problem, I think we rely on UN Teams in this case. |
@hfu Haha, yes, that is the problem of being globally focused- which is a good issue to have! I think the more we can bring other people involved the better we can grow the community, so it's good to get the Atlantic folks onboard! |
No confirmation from New York yet, but let's say the tentative date/time is 2023-07-12T22:00/23:00+09:00. |
@hfu OK! Is that good enough to confirm on the website, or should we wait? |
@albertkun Thanks! It is good to update the web site with tentative date/time. |
We may be rebranding this to Smart Maps Meetup Atlantic. See #168. |
Draft Agenda
What do you think? @yuiseki |
After internal discussion, I am consulting with the UN Open GIS Bureau about postponing the meetup in August. Below is our message to the Bureau. Smart Maps Meetup Quarterly - new date in AugustDear all, By postponing we will be able to: have more concrete draft pilot project proposal We would like to suggest following options for the new date: 2023-08-09 Wed. 09:00/10:30-04:00 We needed to skip the week of UN-GGIM in the begining of August. Please let me know if you have any request or preference about the date. Best regards, Hidenori |
