Welcome to the CityExplorer wiki!

CityExplorer was developed by the Norwegian research project UbiCompForAll in order to explore the idea of end-user service composition.

CityExplorer is an Android App that supports users to customize their exploration of a city. CityExplorer is not a usual tourist guide. CityExplorer was created because we are aware that users wish to experience cities in different ways. Tourists, architects, historians, children have different interests. Besides browsing information about places, CityExplorer provides support for creating and editing places and itineraries in a city.

This App is released with an example database of relevant places for tourists visiting the city of Trondheim in Norway. The users can add places and create itineraries as they wish using CityExplorer. Other databases can also be downloaded from our web site: a database of buildings in Trondheim illustrating some architectural styles and a database of sculptures in Trondheim.

We invite you can create your own database for exploration of your preferred places in any city you want, and to share it with other users. To create a database, we recommend you to use SQLite editor tool on a desktop and to use one of our databases as staring point (so you can reuse the database table structure). Our plan is to provide better support for creation and sharing in City Explorer. May be you can help us in doing so?

The App was earlier released on GooglePlay from which it was freely available. UbiCompForAll is now terminated and we have no resources to update the App for changes in Android (some mechanisms used by CityExplorer are no longer supported by the new versions of Android).
