"Pick a screen color" missing #11899
Comments
Hi @guate6 thank you for your report. |
I have discussed it with the team and indeed with the upgrade this menu had an update which didn't include the option for pick a screen color. To implement this it will take a lot of time and does not have a priority for us right now. That's why I will defer this issue, I hope you understand. |
Thank you for Getting back. I understand. I imagine in the final release it
will be included, yes?

No, defering the issue means "we're likely not going to do this, at least not anytime soon, but if someone else wants to pick it up then we will incorporate their work via a pull request". |
Hi 👋, If this is still a problem for you in the current version of Cura, can you please leave a comment? If it is not a problem anymore, you don't have to do anything, and this issue will be automatically closed in 14 days. |
Hello. Yes, this problem has not been fixed in any of the version 5
releases. It's a picture that was available in the older versions.

Hi 👋,
We are cleaning our list of issues to improve our focus.
This bug seems to be older than a year, which is at least three major Cura
releases ago.
It also received the label Deferred indicating that we did not have time
to work on it back then and haven't found time to work on it since.
If this is still a problem for you in the current version of Cura, can you
please leave a comment?
We will have a fresh set of eyes to look at it.

Hey @guate6, 👋 I'm a fresh set of eyes reporting for duty 💪 Can you help me understand why this feature is important for you? |
Precision of color for client previews is one thing (yes, my monitor is
color calibrated). Rather than having to manually input the hex code for
color.
When any software is released, once you get accustomed to a feature, when
it's missing from any newer versions, it's disappointing that the whole
thing seems to have gone a step backwards.
This became increasingly necessary, because the backup system is broken,
and sometimes I have to reset my profiles. So this taught me to have a
backup xls file with profile information, including colors. I was able to
go in and click the screen color on each cell to get each color done
correctly, but now that the "pick screen color" option is missing, I have
many extra steps to program a color for each material I add or restore to
Cura.

I don't make new materials very often 🤔
Can you help me understand why this feature is important for you?
What are things you cannot do now that the feature is missing?
What is something that the old feature used to do, that you cannot do with
the hex code field?

Hey @guate6, I'll bring it up to the team to see what they can do to improve it. Fingers crossed 🤞 Also, can you tell me more about the backups not working on Windows? |
I understand, and appreciate the positive attitude on this.
Personally I prefer "we will get to it eventually," rather than "we don't
care about this" that seemed to be the subtext of responses I received last
year. Thank you :)

But I expect that if it's not a quick fix that it will not get a high
priority to implement because last time I asked it was harder to bring it
back than expected.
Fingers crossed 🤞
Also, can you tell me more about the backups not working on Windows?
This is the first time I hear of this. Do you have a bug report for it?

Hey @guate6, It seems like the feature you were looking for was not available in the library we are using at the time you reported this. But since then it has been updated and we can now implement https://doc.qt.io/qt-6.2/qcolordialog.html#details. We've added a ticket to the backlog with the intent to improve this. Thanks for the report! 👍 |
Great, thanks. I suspect in an upcoming update we might see this again?

Hey @guate6, The upcoming release is super duper soon, so I expect it not to show up in that release. |
Great, thanks.
