I've reproduced this bug that has been reported a lot lately and I'm not sure what to make of it.

In all versions before 5.0.0, on my computer, no renderer will automatically connect via Wi-Fi - I have to set the "Force networking on interface" setting to match my wireless dongle.

In version 5.0.0, it's the same for the PS3, but for some reason the Xbox 360 kindof connects; it is shown as connected in UMS, and UMS is visible on the Xbox 360, but the Xbox 360 can't enter the server to browse anything.

All versions of UMS connect and start browsing if I set the "Force networking on interface" setting.

So I can see why we are getting a lot of confused users over this. Any ideas, @skeptical ?

Here are logs showing the Xbox 360 is recognized but can't browse (the logs were created after attempting to browse on the Xbox 360) http://www.universalmediaserver.com/forum/download/file.php?id=1933

Here are logs after setting "Force networking on interface", allowing the Xbox 360 to work normally http://www.universalmediaserver.com/forum/download/file.php?id=1934

It seems like this is happening for different devices, we have a report of it occurring with a Philips TV too http://www.universalmediaserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14853
I should mention also that like this user has reported, Plex and Serviio connect without problems or configuration, so there is definitely something wrong with UMS in this case.

@SubJunk it seems to happen for me too if I run ums via wifi on my laptop (which I'd never tried before :-). My Sony Bluray (on ethernet) lists ums in its network diagnostics page but insists on hiding it because it's "not usable" (which I'm guessing means it didn't get responses to discovery). Ums shows the Sony as connected (recognized via upnp/cling but with no activity on the http side), "Force networking" makes no difference.

Similar results with pms (only difference is that the Sony Bluray icon isn't showing, since there's no upnp/cling component to recognize it), so this must be a longstanding bug.

@skeptical thanks for testing. Damn. I haven't spent much time learning the connection part of the UMS code so I don't know if I'll be much help here but I can start to familiarize myself with it.

@SubJunk spoke too soon :). Deleting all connections and rescanning the network in my Sony Bluray fixed it, now I can see/browse my wifi ums. Looks like it was a Sony glitch, but maybe still related.

@skeptical might be another report of this bug at http://www.universalmediaserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3046 and it seems this person didn't have it with PS3MS. Very strange.
