Hello @vladislavyuzbekov, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report. Also, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.

Reading #2719 may also help.

mafia trainer doesn't see the game

Issue transferred from ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux#7529.
@stsp posted on 2020-12-10T22:56:39:

Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date):
    Dec 9, 2020

  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu):
    Fedora

  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No]
    Yes

  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No]
    Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

There is a mafia trainer here:
https://www.moddb.com/games/mafia/downloads/mafia-trainer-19
It can be started, it reacts on double-click,
shows help, etc. But when you launch the
game, the trainer keys are not available there.
It just doesn't see the game.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Run mafia trainer
  2. Run mafia game
  3. Press f12

Nothing happens.
f12 should show the trainer in-game menu.

I think this problem is generic with all trainers,
not specific to this one. Perhaps wine doesn't
allow different processes to access each other's
memory, keyboard and screen?

Mafia broken since proton-5.13-6 and above

Issue transferred from #7687.
@stsp posted on 2024-05-01T08:18:13:

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues:
    Mafia (Lost Heaven)

  • Steam AppID of the game:
    40990

System Information

  • GPU:
    [AMD/ATI] RS780L [Radeon 3000]

  • Video driver version:
    mesa-24.0.5

  • Kernel version:
    6.9.0-rc4

  • Link to full system information report as Gist:
I don't think it is relevant.

  • Proton version:
5.0-10 is the last version where the game works fine.
5.13-6 is the first broken version.

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

I don't think the logs are relevant.

Symptoms

Symptoms depends on a proton version in use.
On latest proton-experimental, the problem is
that the keyboard controls have something like
30 seconds lag, so the game is uncontrolable.
But that depends on a situation, eg in menus
the controls are good. But in the game itself,
the character reacts to a key-press something
like 30 seconds later.

Reproduction

Run the game and start playing. Try to control
the character or drive the car - you can't.

@stsp I couldn't reproduce the regression here. Comparing 5, 8, experimental and bleeding-edge in the first mission the only difference I noticed is that proton 8 couldn't play some videos that appear before the main menu. If you share your save file I could check later missions.

Later missions won't help, its all
the same. Do you have a
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*d3d8,*dinput8=n,b" %command%
in start-up parameters?
For me it doesn't work otherwise.
