I am having issues starting the game. The counterstrike title cards stars and then when it's time to show the main menu of csgo I get a black screen and then csgo stops responding, so I have to terminate it. I am running 64-bit Debian Jessie as my OS so I don't understand why this isn't working? Also, when I try to use shift tab I am unable to when the screen goes black. Csgo worked fine before this update.
here is a link to a video illustrating my issue:

I have the exact same problem, also under Debian. But mine, 30 seconds after the cs:go title cards, goes to the main menu. The problem is that when I click in anyone of the menus, cs:go crashes and I can hear the audio repeat itself. After 15 seconds, it goes to the menu I clicked. Unfortunately, it doesn't let me play.

Have you tried to click wait longer?

I think this is the spot in the loading process when it is compiling shaders or something because after every update it takes very long at this point. I am using Arch Linux with Xfce which does not show a Not Responding window. Try to wait at least 30sec and do not minimize the window or click anywhere while its loading. Sometimes after an update it takes so long on this point that it shows up without your rank, etc in the main menu. But on the second run after an update it loads in seconds. At least thats what i noticed...

What @OlliC said is true. It can also happen that the game always needs some minutes to load but if you wait it will go fine. You can check if csgo is preloading by opening the system monitor. The CPU should be in high load while doing that.

I need about 3-4 minutes to load the game (just the first start after reboot), but this problem is not due to a recent update. This started on my Machine about the time the "HitBox" update arrived.
