CS:GO triggers a "Not responding" prompt in multiple desktop environments #665
Comments
I'm running the same version of elementary os and I'm also experiencing a similar issue. When starting the game a dialog always appears that says cs is not responding, and at the same time the game minimizes. The game always starts even without clicking "wait" on the dialog, but it still has to be done to get rid of the dialog. This issue did not happen before the SDL version was upgraded, and has been happening ever since. My system information: https://gist.github.com/carbn/4b808d851e99f37b48d2df8376337c52 |
I have the same distro and the game runs fine, but it takes so long to open the game. Maybe 1 min or 2, while it only takes 20s on windows. Some times the game crashes with no reason. |
I'm changing the title as Gnome is also affected. |
This is issue #608 |
Will this issue be fixed this year? |
Still facing this error. :( |
After running flawlessly for months, I'm suddenly experiencing this bug. I haven't updated my system in days. Steam or CS:GO may have updated, but I'm not sure. |
Same here on Debian Stretch with Gnome. |
Seeing this with DoI as well on Debian Stretch with Gnome! Big downer. |
Has anyone come up with a solution yet? PS: FPS is also badly affected. |
Nope. Still a problem. Also at least on latest Gnome it forces one minimizes of the CSGO window when trying to click 'Wait' on the Not Responding dialog. Although it should not affect FPS after that as it it still an unredirected fullscreen window. |
This is definitely still an issue on my Gnome Debian Stretch box. |
Also still an issue on my Ubuntu 16.04 server edition with GNOME. |
It exists in tf2 in gnome, do not have the same problem in kde |
Switched to Lubuntu 18.04 with a GNOME desktop, still having the issue. |
Still an issue on GNOME, but only a bit annoying. |
Still an issue on Debian 9 with GNOME3 and NVIDIA cards. |
Same issue on Ubuntu GNOME 3 and NVIDIA card. |
Same issue on Arch GNOME 3 and a 1080 |
Workaround for this issue: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2257/disable-force-quit-or-wait-button/ Just gets rid of this dialog altogether. |
Had this issue today, just after installing CSGO |
When running from the command line, this is the error I get:
|
This issue report has nothing to do with the game crashing or the -nojoy command, this is regarding the window failing to draw anything for too many seconds at launch causing the WM to think it's crashed, but if you just wait or click to ignore it will eventually load and work fine. |
Still an Issue, the dialog appears, and it seems it takes the game considerably longer than Windows to launch. |

I recently switched to gdm and Wayland on Manjaro and all the issues are gone now! |
Since upgrading to Gnome 3.36, this is no longer occuring. I still get a black screen pause of ~ 5 seconds, but no longer get prompted by Gnome that CSGO has hung. |
Hi all, I had the "Not responding" message on black screen launching CSGO... Clicking "wait" did the same as "force to quit" : CSGO closed without other message. Config : Ubuntu 19.10 ; GNOME 3.34.2 ; NVidia NVS 510 ; everything up-to-date I've read dozens of issue reports here... Hope this helps. |

Encountered this issue. Followed the advice in this answer
After clicking wait for 4 or more times, the game started. ps: After first start, I have to click wait only once. Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS |
Same issue here on Pop!_os 20.04, and |
I got a work around for it.
|
Linux fixIf -nojoy or -full isnt working for you, try this |
I can confirm that on Ubuntu 20.10 and 20.04.1 this still happens. Fresh installs on both. It looks like the oldest bug ever for csgo. |
Using Ubuntu 20.04, using |
Adding the launch option "-high" I still get the not responding screen, but the game loads shortly after that without any input from me.
Found on: https://totalcsgo.com/launch-options |
I just tested this Gnome extension and it removes the Not Responding box. https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2257/disable-force-quit-or-wait-button/ |
Anyone having solution trying to solve it since 2 days ! and getting error ! my CSGo starts and i can see the video as well but cant click anywhere so ! help me out here |
https://launchpad.net/gala
I'm using Elementary OS Freya 0.3.2, based on Ubuntu 14.
That doesn't mean that I'm outdated, I have Kernel 4.3 and Nvidia 361.42 (proof)
I tried with another window manager like openbox. I basically write
openbox --replace
in console before launching csgo and it won't crash. With gala it says if I want to close to the game or keep waiting. Clicking keep waiting will minimize the game and it will work without problems, but I'm getting less fps than Win7/Dota 2 on Linux.
I think that's because gala can't disable compositor but the bug shouldn't happen anyway, since I don't get it in other games like Dota 2.
Here is my system information: https://gist.github.com/lmao-emerald/9919bcbafafe2566c69b2382bf9d8b16
If I need to provide more info just tell me what I'm missing.
Apologies for my bad English, thanks for the support.
