We are aware that there are concerns surrounding the performance of CS:GO on OS X after the 64-bit update.

This issue is for the purpose of tracking performance problems with OS X. Other performance issues reported on OS X will be closed as duplicates of this issue.

We are currently investigating possibilities for improving performance.

Possible workaround: Adjust your graphics settings. The update changed graphics settings on some systems and this may cause performance to seem worse. Consider lowering graphics settings.

As replies to this issue you may post system information, graphics settings, along with the performance you experienced before and after the update.

imac, late 2009
2,66ghz i5
12gb 1067mhz ddr3
ati radeon hd 4850 512mb
10.11.5

I cant put my finger on this, but beside the obvious fps drops, it feels less smooth. I'm playing on the lowest possible settings with 800x600 resolution.
64bit: 30-120fps
32bit: 150-290fps

I reverted back to the 32bit client.

HOW DO YOU CHANGE BACK TO 32 BIT CLIENT ON MAC

@Reckless197

you can change it back?

since the update, i cant play in my imac 2009 correctly too. the mouse isnt shown in steam market inside game, (so i wont see weapon skins) and i have fps problems (not because internet) and a rare thing, so annoying, i see in all maps around me a rare thing, like a square with lines. wtf is this update? pls

@pitch282

I reverted to 32bit and am fine now. 64 bit was unplayable the game loaded slow, sound would freeze in menus, 30 FPS in game

Ubuntu 16.04 (4.4.0.22-generic)
AMD FX 8350
16GB RAM
GTX 950 SCC

Was getting 300FPS before now 30

This helped but did not totally fix:
#!/bin/bash
rm /tmp/out.stuff
ln /dev/null /tmp/out.stuff -s

Reverting to 32bit resolved my issues per thread:

@pitch282: this is specifically for OS X. You should report Linux performance issues separately.

However the issue you are talking about with /tmp/out.stuff was fixed in an update last night.

kayhy how do you revert it back to 32

@LocalDropkick

There is this weird stuttering every now and then even though it seems smooth but no.

atm it's pretty much unplayable

I'm getting an average of 30-40 fps in all game modes, even when turned down to 4:3 on all lowest possible settings. When in a firefight it usually drops to 10fps or below. Before the update I could usually get between 60 to 100 fps. RIP weekend, hope you guys can find a fix soon. 😅

Im getting only 60 fps and I have always played on lowest settings since i started cs go a few years ago 800x600 lowest settings ive been getting 130 fps before w/ the 64 bit update its gone to 60. Can we just have the option to revert to 32 bit if we want? :/

Any news on that ? I run a 12 core mac pro with 64gb ram there is no way cs:go should run at 20fps...
When I run it in bootcamp, I get ~ 300 fps

For me switching off multi core rendering helped, now it’s playable with FPS around 100, retina iMac late 2015.

@ChenYao2333 I gave up on this issue and switched to Windows. I can play normally now. I haven't tried it again on my Mac; bit embarrassing for Valve if this actually is still unsolved.

This will be fixed when 100Thieves win a major (I mean, never!).

Sorry the joke, but I'm in the same situation.. can't play the game since the 64bit update.

Could we get some kind of response from Valve on this? Especially with posts like this coming out recently: http://store.steampowered.com/news/37575/

@Adz0rd I don't see how this post relates to CS:GO.
MoltenVK is a compability layer for Vulkan -> Metal, it would only be relevant if CS:GO got ported to Source 2.

Since @kisak-valve thinks it's related here (which I doubt), I'm gonna post here as well.
DispatchAsyncEvent backlog, failed to dispatch all this frame problem was introduced recently and I experience even more bad experience. My console is flooded with messages like that, and I experience frame miss, like pretty laggy game. Anyone else has the same problem?

Valve devs are a goddamn joke at this point. It will soon be 4 years since they royally fucked up and ruined CS:GO for all MacOS users. Yet they’ve never fixed it, never publicly addressed it, and overall just act like it ain’t a problem, all while not even giving the option to revert back. What a bunch of as***es, it’s unreal. And still claim the support for macOS which is even more outrageous.

Please, try this steps that can make this bug gone away:

  • Create Desktop Shortcut for the game
  • Disable AppNap in the properties of shortcut
  • Use the game shortcut to play

Next step probably not necessary, i just was trying to find how to renice the proccess:

  • go to game dir and open csgo.sh. Find the launch string near 60 line and remove the debugger from the script, make something like this
    else exec "${GAMEROOT}"/${GAMEEXE} "$@"
  • Set launch options for the game like this. Some of these things disables shaders, that can help the game on macbooks with Intel Inside instead of videocard:
    -novid -lv -nod3d9ex -threads 8 -low -fps_max 60

If its really the problem with AppNap, Valve should make announce about it.

You even didn't read it.

Look closer:

Next step probably not necessary, i just was trying to find how to renice the proccess.

The main idea about AppNap, another things is just what i tried else. I writing this, because on my Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014, Intel Iris Pro 1536, 10.15.3, problem disappeared.

And yes, i know that were is no d3d in MacOS. But also i dont know how this game is coded. It could be something like
if !getenv('nod3d9ex') { shaders code } so i just tried.

Also, i was trying to play with renice -20, but i didn't found how to automate it without editing sudoers file.

So it will never be fixed? I bought a new PC to switch from my MBP 2017 that I only borrow from work for video editing, but this is quite pathetic.

FPS is capped at 117 no matter what, sometimes dropping to 50 (with an RX 5700)

Issue transferred from #2549.
@vaczi001 posted on 2020-11-04T19:11:39:

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

FPS is capped at 117-120 no matter what. Sometimes for 1 second it goes up to 200, but goes back to 117. Happing in every map, every server. When shooting it even goes down to 50 FPS, there are also stuttering when moving.
Even in menu it's 117. fps_max is 0 (disabled), fps_max_menu also 0, Vsync is disabled. My monitor is 60Hz.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Play on Mac with a powerful CPU and GPU (i7-6700K and RX 5700)
  2. Join any server or training with bots
  3. Watch the capped FPS and droppings.

It's not a HW issue since every other games, even demanding ones are running quite well (for example Shadow of the Tomb Raider) on my system. It's not thermal throttling, not bottlenecking.
On Windows it's running at 370-400 FPS.
Tried with lower settings, lower resolution (even 640x480) it changed nothing.
Tried these launch options: "-novid -nojoy -high -tickrate 128 +cl_forcepreload 1", nothing changed.

FPS on Windows
fps_on_win

FPS on Mac
fps_on_mac

Please fix this Valve, this is a DX9 game and even runs on a potato, but not on an Mac with an i7-6700K and RX 5700.
So many years passed and it's still almost unplayable on macOS. I'll send you any debugs or anything, just please.
Maybe consider changing from OpenGL to Metal, idk.

Performance degradation CS:GO on OSX Big Sur

Issue transferred from #2559.
@ronthijssen posted on 2020-11-19T08:30:17:

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

CS:GO was running smooth on OSX Catalina with LOW settings: 150 - 300 FPS
Since the update to Big Sur, it has become unplayable. 50-100 FPS

  • FPS drops on random locations
  • Mouse clicks results in millisecond freezes (very noticeable)

More users are reporting this problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/jw3tjz/csgo_fps_drops_on_big_sur/

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Install OSX Big Sur

I have found out that app called Magnet could be causing this, source. It affects any game...

Another report on MBP15,2 with eGPU RX 470
macOS Monterey 12.1
FPS is around 50
Doesn't matter if low or high settings.
There are also texture problems.

Unfortunately the game is still literally unplayable on macOS.
20220108130535_1

Maybe it's playable on a MacPro7,1 lol
I guess there is just no developer for macOS at this point.

My system information

System information from steam

What did happen:

CS GO stutters. Most often when I meet the enemy. The bug mostly occurs in competitive matches (in a fight to the death much less often) when jumping on textures or when exiting textures so that the enemy appears immediately afterwards.
I downloaded the game 3 days ago and immediately ran into these bugs. Before that, I played CS GO a year ago on the same device and this did not happen. But then it was Monterey. Now it's Ventura.

What I expect:

CS GO runs smoothly
