i cannot send emoticons. they render as emoticons for me when i send them, but all my friends report it is rendering as text for them. i can receive emoticons no issue, and my friends also confirm ones sent to me render as emoticons.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

1. send an emoticon
2. ask your friend if they see a pretty little picture or if they see text.
