Instructions for KerbalVR v3.2.5+ and KSP 1.9+

This is untested (and likely not working) for KSP 1.8.x.

For KSP 1.7.x and below, see the legacy instructions.

Setup

We'll be using the following setup:

  • Windows 10 64-bit
  • Kerbal Space Program 64-bit (version 1.9.1)
  • SteamVR beta (version 1.11.11 1587177915)

Installation Guide

Okay guys and gals let's do this with baby steps:

  1. Download the latest KerbalVR version from the releases page.

KerbalVR download

  1. Open up the zip file you just downloaded. I'm using 7-Zip to open it up. Select GameData and hit Extract.

KerbalVR GameData

  1. Type in or browse to the root directory of your KSP installation. In my case, it's C:\KSP_win64\. If your KSP is installed through Steam, you might find this somewhere in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program, I don't actually know. Hit OK.

KerbalVR extract GameData

  1. Let's verify everything is correctly installed! Open up a File Explorer window, and navigate to the root of your KSP installation. Navigate to the GameData folder.

Verify GameData

  1. Check to make sure you see a KerbalVR folder. Go into it.

Verify KerbalVR

  1. Check to make sure you see a file KerbalVR.dll here. Go into the openvr folder.

Verify KerbalVR.dll

  1. Check to make sure you see a win32 folder and a win64 folder. Go into the win64 folder.

Verify openvr/win32/win64

  1. Check to make sure you see a file openvr_api.dll.

Verify openvr.dll

  1. Start Steam, and run SteamVR.

Steam

  1. Make sure the little SteamVR window is open and everything looks normal. As of 2020-Apr-18 this mod is working with SteamVR beta version 1587177915. Your headset should be displaying the usual SteamVR home.

SteamVR SteamVR version

  1. Start KSP as you normally would. On the KSP main menu, lower-right corner, check that the version of KSP you are running is in fact version 1.9.1.

Main menu

  1. Load your game and start a flight. Enter IVA mode by pressing the View button on any of the kerbals on the lower-right of the interface.

Enter IVA

  1. Press the Kerbal VR application launcher button on the top-right of the screen. The button with the HTC Vive logo.

Launch app

  1. On the KerbalVR GUI, press the Enable VR button. Your headset should now be showing the IVA view.

IVA mode

That's it. If these steps didn't work for you, I don't know how to help you. Good luck!
