Replicate

  1. Go to an Organization page without any records that are "Available Online", e.g. the WBGO page at the time of this writing has no records that are "Available Online".
  2. Click "View All Records"

Expected result

I can see all WBGO records

Actual result

I see no records, because none are "Available Online", which we have selected by default.

Background

  • It was a deliberate decision to have "Available Online" selected by default, because such a large percentage of our collection is does not have media that is "Available Online", and the metadata-only records (without media) were taking up most of the search results, forcing the user to deliberately filter by "Available Online" to find media.
  • We need to make the search controls and language consistent with expectations while keeping the sensible defaults users will be expecting.
    • When they click "View All Recrods" they presumably want to see all records.
    • When they are doing a regular search, presumably they want to see playable media first and foremost, and not have to deliberately select "Available Online" in order to get playable media.
  • NOTE: These user expectations have largely been assumed, we could use better data for making these UX decisions.
