Alternatives

If calico isn't right for you at the moment, it'd be much appreciated if you created an issue regarding what you need. Otherwise, here are some other state machine libraries for GameMaker:

• SnowState
  • SnowState in particular is probably the most complete GameMaker state machine library (has (normal) inheritance and a great api), and is still being maintained.
• wFSM
  • Hasn't been updated in a while
