HLA region

(explanation)

In most Genome-Wide Association Study, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism(SNP)s are often assumed to be bi-allelic, i.e. there are only two variations in each locus. However, Many SNPs in the HLA region are multi-allelic because the HLA region has extreme polymorphism. In other words, when it comes to the HLA region, NGS technique with Human Reference Genome and most SNP array panels can't fully cover the variation of the HLA region.
