Some sites have translated content versions available through different URLs. It is quite time-consuming to copy the URLs from the source, paste it into a browser, search for a translation option and then paste its "translated URL" into the translated text.

Example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POSIX -> https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/POSIX
But: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_binary_interface -> https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interface_binária_de_aplicação
So by no means it is sufficient to simply replace parts of the URL.

I suggest a phased approach, each of them adding value for the translator:

  • make untranslated URLs easily available,
  • make entering "translated URLs" easily available,
  • automatize opening them in a browser
  • try to switch the language on the target site. This could be a hard step and therefore possibly implemented for prominent pages like Wikipedia or f-droid.org as plugins.
  • replace the source URL with the "translated URL" in the target text upon confirmation.

This issue has been put aside. It is currently unclear if it will ever be implemented as it seems to cover too narrow of a use case or doesn't seem to fit into Weblate. Please try to clarify the use case or consider proposing something more generic to make it useful to more users.
