I see experimental branch #91 is to be merged into master eventually. Is that a stable build and will that be done soon? I did a lot of work using the master branch and i'm worried that if I do use that branch, i'll lose some functionality. Having a filter is extremely handy since i'm working with > 1000 nodes.

No. There are no plans to merge this branch. Too many changes as you have noted.
