(This is re-open of #12864 )

Describe the bug
I'm not using gutenberg before. After upgrading wordpress to 5, I can only add a title block and content block for new post. The content block, which I think is a classic block, has no toolbar on it.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create New Post

Expected behavior
I should be able add block. Instead I can only have the title block and a content block. The content block even has no toolbar on it.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Browser: Firefox 66 / Chrome 71

Additional context

  • The version of gutenberg is the one comes with wordpress 5.0.1.
  • I do not find any javascript error in the devtool console.
  • setting user proflie "Visual Editor" does not help (as suggested from Cannot add block for new post #12864)
  • I suspect a plugin conflict here but really has no clue on what to start from:

Please try disabling all plugins. Also make sure you haven't disabled the visual editor in your profile.

After that, check if you can switch between the visual and the code editor when clicking on the three dots in the top right corner.

@jackysee I am having the exact same issue. @swissspidy I haven't disabled the visual editor in my profile. I disabled all of my plugins and I still have the same issues as Jack.

Please can you assist?

Now I am even more confused...

I have my WP site hosted on AWS, running on an EC2 instance, I have an ElasticLoadBalancer and then am setting up my Route53 to connect to the site thought CloudFront. I have full SSL setup on the site.

When I am accessing the site on the domain, I have the error I described above... But, when I access it thought the IP of the EC2 instance, I do not have this error...

Can anyone explain to me what is going on here??????????

After some tedious troubleshooting, I find the plugin in conflict is 'Markdown on save improved'.

What works for me was turning off and turning on again visual editor in your profile.
