It's now possible to create templates for specific contexts (e.g. category-recipes). While editing such templates you can find yourself interacting with blocks from a very broad variety of scopes.

In the example above one can edit:

  • Menu items in a globally synced navigation menu
  • The design of a template part like Header / Footer
  • Site meta (title, tagline, logo, etc)
  • Individual posts
    • Meta (change the title, featured image, etc)
    • Content (the blocks inside Post Content)
  • All archives if the Post Template block in Query Loop is a template part, or if you change the date format
  • Category meta (change the title, description)
  • The category-recipes template :)

Clearly this is a lot, and the UI doesn't do the best job of clarifying the scope of the selected block. You only really find out exactly what has been edited when you click Save and the multi-entity save panel appears:

I'm curious to explore if there's a more convenient / active way to outline the scope of the selected block in the site editor.
