The "Select parent item" option is not obvious—it is far too easy to fall into the trap of selecting just a list item, e.g., for removal, copy, etc. This is particularly damning with drafts, where a list may just gave one item — ant this may be empty — see #45919 for details.
The problem exists also in list with multiple items: one should be able able to select multiple items with drag-select, and drag-selecting all items should (IMO) automatically select the parent block. That does not help with selecting the parent block in (draft) lists containing just one item (full or empty).
