This project is part of the ongoing Open Web Applications effort led by http://www.mozilla.org to liberate users from the closed, locked apps and app stores. Open Web Applications bring the power and the freedom of the web to desktops, tablets, cellphones.

Consider the following scenario: A group of people (could be players, but also rescuers, fireworkers, etc.) want to know in real time where each of them is, and see this on a map. Before the start of the game/operation, they agree on a unique URL. Starting from this moment, and until they disconnect each player, etc. can just look at the on-screen map to see where all other players with the same URL are, with the possibility to zoom in onto one player and zoom out to see all players. Informations are updated every few seconds.

The objective of this project is to implement this as an open web application.

Bonus features:

  • if the information is more than e.g. 30 seconds old, change the color to show the fact that the information is not certain;
  • players should be able to choose a name and/or a symbol;
  • broadcast emergency messages to everybody;
  • broadcast emergency messages to the nearest players;
  • show itineraries on the map.

That's great! Let me suggest the following:

  • open a github project for this project and provide us with a link to the project;
  • in your project, post the list of features you want to achieve in, say, one week of work.

For instance, for this project, the list of features after one week could be to achieve an application:

  • that can be installed;
  • that displays the current GPS coordinates of the device.
