Hi everyone,

I discovered Zettlr some months ago, and I was really impressed with the program. Congrats, you are doing a really nice job here! I decided to continue with the Catalan translation of the program, which is already complete (the translation server made things really easy, thanks a lot!). As I really appreciate the documentation, I decided to try tho translate it too (that's a little bit more tricky I have to say, but it worked). Right now the "Welcome" and "First steps" sections are done (and working on my computer!), so I'm thinking to make the (probably minor for you, huge for me) step and make a pull request. Here are some minor issues I'm not quite sure how you deal with it:

  1. You make Pull request for partial translations too, isn't it? Or do you recommend to wait until is mature or done? Anything special (hints) I need to know, and it's not in the documentation?
  2. The "emoji" Catalan flag (at the end of assets/index.html) appears as a black flag (with Firefox 84.0.1). I took it from here https://emojipedia.org/flag-for-catalonia-esct/ (which also appears as black flag or as a question mark flag). I don't know any easy solution for that except put Catalan without a flag (for me will be ok).
  3. I copied from the English version and commented all the entries in config/ca.yml which are not yet translated. This is a way to track what is already done and what needs to be done. Do you normally do the things like this or is there another way?
  4. I just made a Symlink to the docs/ca/img folder from the English one. In this way images (in English) will appear, when needed (I don't plan to translate images right now). Is this good? Would it be better to just copy them?
  5. Should I add a Message in the welcome page, commenting something like "this is an ongoing translation, check other languages, you can collaborate ..."?
  6. How do you coordinate in other languages? Do you use the issue system here or the ones in every fork (or do you use telepathy, or you don't talk at all?)

I already noticed, and I'm a big fan, I really like that :)

To your questions:

You make Pull request for partial translations too, isn't it?

Just start, anything is better than nothing, because the English translation is still the reference, it just makes it easier for people not so proficient in English.

The "emoji" Catalan flag (at the end of assets/index.html) appears as a black flag

To quote from the page you link:

This Flag Sequence has not been Recommended For General Interchange (RGI) by Unicode. Expect limited cross-platform support.

I fear that's with a lot of non-nation-state-flags, they're not available as Emojis, and I understand if you don't want to fall back to the Spanish flag out of understandable reasons.

I don't know any easy solution for that except put Catalan without a flag (for me will be ok).

I'd say let's leave it for now, but if we switch to actual icons at some point, we can include it then.

Do you normally do the things like this or is there another way?

There is not really a standard way, but as long as MKDocs is able to compile it correctly (which it should if you just copied everything from any other language) it's just fine. If there should be any errors because you're basically creating a new language, then so be it, I'll be here to help get it working initially, and then it's really just adding more pages and editing those.

I just made a Symlink to the docs/ca/img folder from the English one. In this way images (in English) will appear, when needed (I don't plan to translate images right now). Is this good? Would it be better to just copy them?

Clever! It makes sense to copy them so that we can one-by-one replace them with screenshots from the correct language, but if you don't want to go that extra mile you can leave it like that.

Should I add a Message in the welcome page, commenting something like "this is an ongoing translation, check other languages, you can collaborate ..."?

Mh, I don't think this would be a good idea, or what do you think? (You're from a user perspective so you have a better judgment in this regard)

How do you coordinate in other languages? Do you use the issue system here or the ones in every fork (or do you use telepathy, or you don't talk at all?)

:D I think don't talk at all, the translations are free-for-all, so I try to keep the English translation up to date so that it's the reference, and all other languages can be translated as the translators please. It's not perfect, but it works given my limited resources.
