Configuration file handling

As discussed in #292 it would be nice if the configuration file handling can be improved. Ideas that could be implemented:

• validation of keys (see check config file keys for validity, use setValue instead of direct access #296)
• validation of values as far as possible
• display of configuration before sync/monitor
• allow passing a json file as configuration via --with-config=file.json

Before we implement anything, let us discuss here what the best way is.
