nv: nessus vulnerability visualization

nv is a tool for visualizing vulnerabilities reported in Nessus scans.

nessus visualization

nv consists of four main views:

  • A zoomable treemap with nodes sized and colored according to their attributes (max CVSS severity, max machine criticality, or total vulnerability count)
  • Histograms that summarize scan statistics and act as clickable filters to modify the data shown in the treemap
  • An editable hierarchy (above the treemap) where items can be dragged and dropped to re-arrange the treemap hierarchy
  • A Nessus info area that shows vulnerability info and possible solutions

Running

To run nv, you can use the public site, http://ornl-sava.github.com/nv/ or you can use the built in script or use your own web server.

To run using the built in script, have node.js installed and simply run run_nv. If a browser is not launched automatically, go to http://localhost:8000/ in a browser.

To run using your own web server, just start in the current directory. For example, to use Python's http server, run python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000 and go to http://localhost:8000/ in a browser.
