Would it be hard to support also splash screen creation?

Splash screens are more problematic since they require vertical and horizontal versions and custom cropping. How would it work?

I use sometimes this web service for fast splash screen generation. Basically it ask you a big pic (2048x2048 px) with the important artwork at the center (500x500 px) and then it create (almost) all the required dimensions.
Maybe this could be a good starting point?

Just to bring it to attention, there are some tricks that you can do with phantomjs to create a splashscreen from an html file.
