Bug: 500 - Server Error - Issue with PHP in container logs #891

Describe the bug
Loading the web page (after the most recent :latest push) loads a 500 - server error page
There are errors in the logs.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to speed test tracker web page

Expected behavior
Speed test tracker loads with no errors

Environment (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Debian 12
  • Architecture: AMD64
  • Browser: Firefox, Safari
  • Version - Version of what?

Just tried backdating from latest (v0.13.1) to the following:

  • v0.13.0
  • v0.12.2 (latest 12.x)
  • v0.12.0
    and had the same error on all versions.

I then moved to v0.11.17 (most popular 0.11.x) - this fixed my issue!

I can only assume (wild guess, not a php or laravel dev), based on the error and fact the issue is only present on v0.12.x and v0.13.x, that the newer versions must look for some sort of laravel related file/function/certificate etc that is missing/expired.

It pretty much tells you to just open a git issue if the problem persist (which I did).

If 12.0+ generates a key on startup automatically, then surely I shouldnt need to manually create and persist one?

I also have the app key. I can't say exactly when the problem arose. But it wasn't a fresh install. My installation has been running for at least 6 months.

It doesn't seem to be working correctly especially when you have an empty APP_KEY defined in an .env file. Haven't had the time to dig into it lately with client work.

Just make sure you aren't specifying it in a .env file in your mounted volume.

what is the right solution now? The help article says you should run this command, which is what I did. but doesn't solve my problem. the .env has also been updated.

php artisan key:generate --show

Another article says that the key must be preceded by a base64:.

For those who are spacing it and can't seem to get this to work, be sure to include "base64:" with your generated ID in the environment key /s
