Which pages to choose

The monitoring body has their own legal text which describes what to test. The WCAG Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM) describes what the W3C recommends to test.

Both testing guidelines say to test:

  • common web pages and entry pages such as home, login, sitemap and search
  • help and legal information pages, including the accessibility statement
  • contact pages - this should include the feedback mechanism mentioned in the accessibility statement
  • essential functionality and primary intended uses
  • web pages and page types that have a substantially distinct appearance or present a different type of content
  • pages using different web technologies
  • other pages you think are relevant
  • a representative sample, typically at least one relevant page for each type of service
  • complete processes, journeys and interactions
  • at least one downloadable document
  • an additional random sample (10% of the number of sample pages you have chosen)

Site analytics including most visited pages and page template types can be useful to help you decide which samples of pages to test.
