When I use the screensaver on a 23" Lenovo LI2364d monitor in portrait mode, the pixels appear rectangular:

Oof, good catch, that's pretty interesting. I have been considering a Life Saver rewrite to fix some little problems I have with it, and keeping this in mind sounds like a good idea to me. Thanks for the report.

Similar issue: the screen saver looks a little bit stretched on Macbook Pro 16". I think it has to do with the extra screen estate at the sides of the notch.
